About Jamie Mitchell

Jamie Mitchell began painting nearly 15 years ago while living in California and calling on high-end boutique hotels.  Jamie found herself more drawn to the abstract art on the walls in the lobbies of the hotels than trying to sell the management purchasing software!  One day while working near Stanford University, Jamie wandered into the bookstore and purchased 3 canvases and some paint.  She had no idea where to begin, but she knew this was definitely the beginning of something wonderful!

It wasn't until 2007 that Jamie was able to quit her full time sales job and focus more on art.  By 2011, painting was no longer just a hobby, and Jamie began entering art competitions.  Her works have been juried into the Entergen Art Show in Birmingham, AL, as well as the Region's Bank Show in Montgomery.  Her piece "Bright Horizon" was chosen Best in Show in the 2013 SACS Gallery Member's Show, and most recently her piece "Abstract Sunset" won a purchase award at the SACS Gallery's Waterfront Show.  Jamie has also won an honorable mention for her work "Blue Gertrude."  Her work has also shown in AUM's Nightingale Show.

Jamie has studied under local artists Judie Hooks and Nan Cunningham, but she is mostly self-taught.  She has a BS in Spanish and a BBA in Marketing from Mississippi State University.  Jamie did internships in Miami and Costa Rica in college and is inspired by the bright colors and water seen on her travels.  Texture, layers and color are signature to Jamie's pieces.  Just like her art career, Jamie likes for her works to look as though they have evolved over time.

Originally from Jackson, MS, Jamie currently resides in Montgomery, AL, with her husband and two teenaged children.
